Reflection 1 of 4
So far I learned about the importance and benefits of health care. Almost everyone knows about the benefits of health care so it would be easy research to find the answer. My topic would be about the negativity v. the positivity there is on medical care. My current universal theme is community so I thought that the community of people debating about health care would be a good place to start. An article called, “Life expectancy could be a topic in health care debate” from CNN talks about how a community of people can receive good health benefits from medical care. Another article called Access to Health Services from ODPHP (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion) talks about services and how medical care benefits a community of people economically and by health. Those two are my current articles so it can help me relate positivity of medical care to it’s negativity. I still need to find two more articles which I will use to talk about the negativities. I changed my topic twice and never changed my universal theme. My universal theme works for my topic as my topic constantly relates to the positivity or negativity of health care to a community of people. I had to change my topic twice as once it was about Technology which really was a rushed idea as I am not the best at technology and then medical care which was to broad. In my next steps I would hope to find good sources about the negativities of health care as I so far have positivities. I am working alone so I am not collabing with anyone. I would say that if I could get my topic approved I would feel much better on doing this project.

Since the last time I wrote about my research I found out that exercise or healthy foods weren’t the only important thing on improving one’s life expectancy. One’s income and location can impact your life expectancy as well. I am doing an interview so I can interview an expert who can answer my questions that I have about life expectancy. What has been easy is finding information but I am having difficulty in organizing myself and knowing what to ask. I need to research more on the person who I plan to interview so it can maybe help me think of questions to ask. I need to finish my info synthesis doc, get 7th article and get my layout plan approved. I need to work faster as I am behind on schedule.

I learned about how the economy in the place you live affects your life expectancy. For example, nations in poverty cannot afford medical aid so their life expectancy is low. I learned that I can be well organized as I had to make everything perfect and had to try to turn everything in by their deadlines. I do a great job working alone. I painted tombstones and a tree on my tri-fold board to symbolize life and death. I made an info graphic to show all my data and that can relate to community and impact of life expectancy. For my creative piece I plan to draw a large map showing how long you will live in a certain nation. People can step on it and I can tell them that if they lived there, they would have a certain life expectancy. All I need to complete my project is my creative piece. I just need to buy some paper and draw on it. I am not collaborating with anyone as I am working alone. I was getting a little behind on my mentors due dates to turn in work but other than that everything is going well. I am now caught up and my only focus now is my creative piece and then practice on what to say.

What economic impact does life expectancy have on different communities? Before I turned in my project I made sure that the paint looked good on all parts of my map and board and I also made sure that nothing fell apart. I had to glue a few things again just so they wouldn’t fall during my presentation. I learned that the countries that have the highest economy do not have the highest life expectancy. I learned on how to find scholarly articles. I became strict on finding articles rather than accepting the first one I saw. I learned on how to organize my information so I can explain to the people in a more organized matter. I didn’t get my results for the Student-led research so I did an info graphic instead. I learned about a lot of statistics on life expectancy. I think I did a great job at presenting. People were able to learn something new and I made a mini-game for them to play and once they finish I would explain the purpose of the game and correct them. If I could do anything differently I would just speed myself up. The last two weeks was really painful as I had to catch up with everyone else. My advice for symposium is find something that interests you so you can g=have fun as you work. I would also say that try to work on it whenever you have time so you do not have to struggle or end up in a rush once the final deadline approaches. My last piece of advice is do everything as neatly as possible no matter what as if you did a bad job you will have to redo it.
